Zaha Hadid Architects speed ahead
Listed as one of the world’s best buildings to open in 2017, the BBC said of Napoli Afragola’s design: “This striking new station for Italy’s expanding high-speed rail network writhes up and over eight
railway tracks... It is both a spectacular, snake-like bridge expressing the dynamism of Italy’sy
300kph railways and their equall serpentine trains and a main-line station with haunting views of Mount Vesuvius.” Designed by Zaha Hadid Architect’s, Napoli Afragola also received the 2018 Surface Travel Award for Transportation. The Surface Travel Awards recognize the most thoughtfully conceived new projects at the intersection of travel and design, raising awareness of the crucial benefit of design as a means to improve our lives as we explore the world around us. Designed to meet the region’s future demand for rail travel which has increased by more than 50% in the past decade, once all phases of the station complete in 2022 Napoli Afragola will become a gateway to southern Italy and key interchange station serving four inter-city lines, three regional lines and a local commuter line... read more

Turning things on their head GRAFT shortlisted for Dubai 2020
The site for this house in Singapore posed several challenges for Timur Designs LLP to overcome. Firstly, it is located right at the junction of two busy four-lane roads. And in addition to that, the overhead MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) viaduct for the East-West cross-island train is located just beyond one of these roads. Added to this there is constant noise coming from cars and the passing train. The front of the site, where the main gate is located, faces almost West. To keep out heat and glare from the low angle western sun, the two most visible facades cannot have too many see-through openings. Thus, in trying to shield the interior spaces from the traffic noise and the Western sun, the semi-detached house is “flipped” inwards by carving out large voids between the... read more

The pavilion creates a symbiosis of German flagships, such as efficiency, technology, science and natural environment, and displays them in a coherent overall concept. The winner of the competition for the design of the pavilion will officially be introduced on September 5th. In GRAFT's design, the space, which is orthogonally structured by means of scaffolding, represents a container of knowledge, with six integrated exhibition... read more
