INTERIORS+DESIGN for architects

A May to remember

The UK’s definitive furnishings fair, May Design Series, will be returning to London’s ExCeL between 18-20th May this year. With a line-up of close to 400 top brands, May Design Series is the ideal event for architects, interior designers and contractors to meet new suppliers and source products for the year ahead.

Uniquely timed to form the finale of the European show circuit, May Design Series gives visitors the chance to be among the first to pick up the latest launches debuted in Milan, Paris and Frankfurt once the products have been through the prototyping stage and are ready to buy. With an edited selection of exhibitors from across the globe – Australia to China, Portugal to India – international design highlights will sit side by side with the best of British brands.

Across 5 show sectors, Furniture, DX, Decor, Kitchen + Bathroom and Lighting [including Arc] the line up of exhibitors for the 2014 edition is un-missable with names such as Sharon Marston, Innermost, Casamania, Zazzari, Swaffer Fabrics, Ebb & Flow and many more.

Bespoke lighting designer Sharon Marston will be launching not one but 6 brand new designs which will be unveiled exclusively at the show. The new designs will consist of opulent gold and black earthenware ceramics, whilst the stand itself will be adorned with stainless steel sculptures, bone china pendants across a backdrop of intricate wall panels gilded in silver leaf.

For designers and specifiers looking for both lighting and furniture, Innermost offers something to suit every interior space. A canvas seating solution that acts as a piece of functional art thanks to the clever construction of structured fabrics. The Canvas leans against the wall and appears at a distance to be a 2 – dimensional image when in fact it’s a fully functional chair.

Italian based furniture design Casamania represents a contemporary and forward thinking aesthetic that seamlessly translates to high end residential, hospitality or commercial design projects with collections covering a wide range of pieces from modular systems, furniture to lighting. Highlights include the Toshi range of storing units.

Gwinner, based in the Black Forest region of southern Germany has been manufacturing quality modern cabinets and wall systems for over 80 years. Product highlights at the show include the striking HANG wall unit from the Felino range, a large wall unit constructed from panels which curve at each end for a contemporary and sophisticated look.

Despite the unmissable exhibitor line-up, May Design Series is more than just a trade show. As well as being a place to network, source and do business, attending the event feels more like a unique experience than a business trip. Ab Rogers will be curating the exhibition space to form the perfect blend of business and inspiration, and the design guru plans to realise his design largely out of dyed cardboard in order to create an aesthetic that is directly recyclable. On working with the show Ab said: “It’s about time the UK had a show to rival Europe. I believe that in collaboration with the May Design Series, we can start to create an international impact.”

These feature areas include the Conversation Series, a line-up of seminars set to spark conversation between industry experts including Johannes Torpe, Creative Director of Bang & Olufsen and Andrew Budgen, Director at Spacelab. Materia will be exploring the revolutionary materials shaping the future of the Built Environment in The Material Xperience 2014: The Smart Environment and visitors will also be able to take a retrospective look back at past winners of the New Design Britain Awards from the past ten years.

The show runs from Sunday 18th – Tuesday 20th May, with late opening on Monday night, when visitors can walk the aisles until 8pm. May Design Series is free to attend for members of the trade – to claim your complimentary pass, visit
