WAN Retail and Leisure Awards now open

The WAN Retail and Leisure Interiors Awards recently opened to showcase the best interior designs in this field.

This year we are accepting entries across a wide range of categories including Restaurants and bars, Private Members’ Clubs, Retail and Outlet Centres and Arts and Leisure. One of our first entries came from Olson Kundig Architects for their redesign of the tasting room at the Georgetown Brewing Company in Seattle, USA.

The new tasting room and brewery for Georgetown Brewing Company uses hot-rolled steel, bold graphics, and oversized operable sliding doors to transform a nondescript warehouse into an iconic landmark in an industrial neighbourhood.

Two oversized steel doors positioned at the corner of the building slide open to reveal the front entrance. The doors not only complement the building’s industrial character but they function as a large billboard to passerby. Inside the tasting room, the original steel and concrete ceiling was uncovered and left exposed.

Customers can view the action of the brewery through a glass wall. Architects worked with local fabricators to design the bartop/counter with wood salvaged from the old Rainer Brewery, and steel logos and graphics on the outside of the building. Retail sales at the brewery have jumped 30% after the renovation.

This year the Retail and Leisure Awards will be judged by an exciting panel of young designers and industry experts including Fiona Livingstone, Co-founder of Studiofibre; Christopher Jenner, Interior Designer; Paul Hanegraaf, Creative Navigator Milligan Retail, London and Stephen Jones, Regional Managing Principal, Woods Bagot, Asia.

As with all our awards we are offering a special discounted rate for early bird entries. Save money and enter before the 15 November 2012 for 15% off the full price.

We are very excited about the Retail and Leisure Awards and look forward to receiving lots of interesting, innovative and intriguing projects from around the world. We will be publishing all entries on our website and a good selection in our newsletter and on the blog so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
