"Jonathan Speirs was passionate about light and always saw awards schemes as being a great way to raise the standards of creative design. I am therefore delighted that World Interiors News has decided to support the Jonathan Speirs Scholarship Fund through its excellent awards programme."
Mark Major RIBA FRIAS RDI, Director Speirs + Major

Light is perhaps the most important aspect in any space, yet it's often overlooked. Through an understanding of the subtle dynamism between illumination and form, effective lighting design can transform spaces, add texture, accentuate focal points and evoke moods. To recognise the most innovative and inspirational of these designs, World Interiors News is proud to team up with the Jonathan Speirs Scholarship Fund, a charity established in memory of the eponymous architectural lighting designer who sadly lost his battle against cancer last year.

The Lighting Design Category - supporting the Jonathan Speirs Fund celebrates lighting projects that balance creativity, functionality and efficiency, from small installations in shops and cafés to large retail developments and public buildings. Separating the leading lights from the dark horses will be a judging panel of distinguished luminaries, hand-picked for their industry experience, uncompromising integrity and astute perceptions. Assessing this year's entries will be:
  • David Atkinson - DALD
  • Zerlina Hughes - Studio ZNA
  • Paul Nulty - Paul Nulty Lighting Design
  • Simon Terry - Anglepoise
  • Mark Major - Speirs + Major

For every entry received, we'll make a donation to the Jonathan Speirs Scholarship Fund, which provides support to students of architecture who wish to pursue a career in architectural lighting design. So together, we'll be championing outstanding lighting design and helping the next generation of professionals to create products and projects that enhance our experience of the visual environment.
